about
LAURIE MCKELVIE

GUEST ARTIST
showing with Ann Ruppert at Windborne farms

Laurie loves color and light, and tries to make a viewer feel like they are invited into her paintings, to enjoy the freshness of the air, the beautiful colors of nature, or the drama of a moment in time.

Laurie “discovered” pastels 24 years ago, and promptly put down her paint brush and embraced the immediacy of painting pure, gorgeous color without the mess of thinners or slow drying oil paint.  Pastels are made with the same pigments that oils are, but they contain much less binder.  Even though it is a dry medium, the intention is painting, not drawing.

Laurie graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Art Education, and enjoyed teaching in a variety of venues over the past 30 some years.  She has been honored in having her paintings juried into several shows over the last 12 years, and her work has been shown in Hunstville, AL, Stockton, CA and Chambersburg, PA.  She is a member of the Franklin County Art Alliance and the Maryland Pastel Society. She currently loves working with her pastel group in Chambersburg, painting with the Mountain Plein Air Painters and taking the occasional pastel workshop.
