about
jack handshaw
Jack has been an active artist exhibiting his work in the Adams County area as well as regionally juried art shows for over 45 years. He is a juried member of the PA Guild of Craftsmen since 1978. He also teaches and demonstrates for many non-profit organizations and has been an artist-in-residence at many local schools and institutions. Jack has been an active member of the Adams County Arts Council since its beginning. He works with all types of clay but in the the past 45 years he has been focusing mainly on reduction fired glazes on porcelains. Jack has recently returned to his love of Raku pottery after a 20 year hiatus. The piece entitled "Harvest" was accepted into the 2020 PA Art of the State, an annual juried exhibition held at The State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg where it won third place in crafts. The same piece was accepted into the Adams County Arts Council juried exhibit in 2021 and won second place. He has recently rebuilt his outdoor reduction kiln and is anticipating some new glazes for this year's tour where he will once again be focusing on porcelains. "I believe my work reflects my closeness to nature and the beautiful area that surrounds me."
